How to Use Windows Password Refixer on BitLocker Encrypted Drive
For Windows Password Refixer to work, you must first disable BitLocker encryption on your operating system drive. This is the step.
Steps to use Windows Password Refixer on BitLocker Drive
There are mainly five steps that you will need to use a USB flash drive or CD/DVD. This process may be troublesome, but it can help you successfully use Windows Password Refixer to reset Windows password on BitLocker encrypted drive without any data loss.
Step 1: Disable BitLocker encryption on the system drive
If you are logged into Windows, you can go to Control Panel -> System and Security -> BitLocker Drive Encryption to disable BitLocker encryption on operating system drives.
However, if you’ve forgotten your Windows password and can’t log in, you’ll need to use the Windows installation media to disable BitLocker encryption.
Now, I will take Windows 10 as an example to show the detailed process.
1. Connect a Windows 10 installation media to your computer whose system drive is locked by BitLocker, then start the computer and enter the boot menu or BIOS setup to configure your computer so that it boots from the installation media.
If you don’t have Windows 10 installation media, just download a Windows 10 disc image to create one.
- After your computer boots, you will get the “Windows Setup” screen as shown in the screenshot below. Press Shift + F10 on the Windows setup screen to bring up the instant window.
- In the Command Prompt window, type manage-bde -status and press the Enter key. This will check the BitLocker status of all drives connected to your computer, including the operating system drive.
You can see that BitLocker has locked your OS volume (volume D in my case).
- Now use the following command to unlock your BitLocker encrypted OS drive. Replace “Your_Recovery_Key” with the BitLocker recovery key. If your input key is correct, the system volume will be unlocked successfully. manage-bde -unlock D: -RecoveryPassword Your_Recovery_key
- Now, type manage-bde -off D: and press Enter key to disable the system drive. Decrypt system drive
You can repeatedly use the manage-bde -status command to monitor the debugging process.
6. check the decryption process
When “Encrypted Percentage” reaches 0.0%, your system drive is completely corrupted. This means that BitLocker is disabled on your operating system drive.

Just click Yes and quickly disconnect the USB drive from your computer. Your computer will restart normally and log in without a password being required.
