How to Reset Restore or Reinstall Windows 10

Method 1: Use the built-in reset function


The first way is to use the reset function built into Windows 10.

You can open the recovery option from the search box, type in “Reset this PC” and click Enter to open the recovery option.

Then you will see two options: keep the file or delete the file.

Generally, the default reset function is to reset the computer to a clean and fresh state.

Method 2: Reset your PC using Advanced Startup


The process is to perform a high initial operation.

You can start it from the recovery option:

under “Advanced startup” and click “Restart now”.

Or, you can access it from Start, then hold the Shift key while selecting the Power icon > Restart to restart your computer in recovery mode.


When your computer restarts, select Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.

Method 3: Use the recovery drive to restore Windows 10


When a PC has problems preventing Windows from booting, a USB recovery drive can help reset the system to its original factory state.

Unlike other recovery methods, using a USB recovery drive does not include the option to save your personal files to reset your PC.

Make sure you have backed up all personal files before starting the reset process.

Make sure the USB recovery drive is connected to your PC.

  • Turn on the computer and continue pressing the required keys to open the boot options menu.
  • Select the USB recovery drive from the list and click Add.
  • Open the boot options menu
    The system will now load the recovery mode on the USB drive.
  • Select the keyboard layout, and click “Troubleshooting”.
  • Select the “Recover from drive” option.

    There are two options for deleting files.

Simply deleting the files is a quick option, but it is recommended that for PCs that are going to be abandoned, refurbished, or sold, it takes longer to clean the drive completely when you reset Windows.

After choosing the method to delete individual files, press the “Restore” button to start reinstalling Windows.

If your PC won’t boot at all, you can use the installation media to perform a complete factory reset of your PC.

On a working PC, go to the Microsoft Software Downloads website, download the media creation tool, and use it to create an installation media drive on the USB.

Next, connect the installation media you created to your PC, configure your PC to boot from the installation media.

Then, select the “Back up my computer” option.

You should be able to access the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE).

In this case, a clean Windows installation is the right way.

This type of clean installation cleans and creates parts of the system.

Method 5: Reinstall Windows 10 using Fresh Start

Fresh Start allows you to perform clean installs and Windows updates while keeping your personal data and many Windows settings intact.

In some cases, a clean install can improve the device’s startup and shutdown experience, memory usage, Microsoft Store app performance, browsing experience, and battery life.

To use the new Start, open the Windows Security app, you will find this feature under device performance and health on the left side.

When you are ready, click “Start” and you can start the recovery process.
