  • click the “File” tab, then select “Open”, and
  • at the bottom of the most recent display, click “Retrieve a saved display”,

AutoRecover helps to protect files from accidents.

If you open the file as failed, the version of the file containing your new changes will appear in the Document Recovery pane.

If this feature is not enabled when the saved file is closed, the display cannot be restored.

To ensure that you can successfully recover unsaved PowerPoint files when you encounter a computer crash and fear that you and your computer work will not be lost, you should help and organize the AutoRecover plan to save as many PowerPoint file as possible.

Set document recovery options

  1. Select File > Options.
  2. Select Save.
  3. Check the Save AutoRecover message box.
  • Set how often you want to save your work.
  • To be on the safe side, set a small number, so you don’t waste more than 2 or 5 minutes of work.
  • Or, to speed up Office, enter a larger number, like 20.
  • Check the box Keep the last auto-saved version if I close without saving.
    Change the location of the AutoRecover file if you want.

  1. When finished, select OK. Now, if the unexpected happens, the next time you open the application, you can use the Document Recovery pane to recover your Office files.

Note: Even with Document Recovery Set, it is still a good idea to select Save When (or press Ctrl + S) to avoid losing work.
