How to Fix Apple Watch Update Stuck

If you find that the update progress bar is stuck, it may be that the file size is too large and the Watch needs a little time to download it.

If it’s stuck, even after you’ve waited a long time, there are a few things you can do to get it going:

Keep Apple Watch and iPhone close:

Although both devices need to be within Bluetooth range for the update to take place, it is recommended to keep them close. This will prevent anything from interfering with the Bluetooth signal and preventing updates.

Check storage space:

The update may be stuck because there is not enough storage space on your iPhone or watch. Leave space on both devices and try to download the update again.

Make sure that the Apple Watch has a full charge:

Although it is important to keep the watch on the charger during the update, make sure that it is at least 50% charged before you start updating it.

Turn off Bluetooth:

By default, your watch will prioritize the Bluetooth connection when updating, which can be slow.

To speed things up, you can turn it off by going to Settings > Bluetooth and clicking the Bluetooth switch to the off position.

Use the same Wi-Fi network:

If Bluetooth is turned off, it means that it will be updated via Wi-Fi. To make things smoother, make sure the watch and iPhone are connected to the same wireless network.

Restart the Watch app:

The Watch app itself may encounter a bug that prevents the update from proceeding.

Closing the app and opening it again may help. If you need a refresher, please read our guide on how to close apps on any iPhone.

Open Apple Watch, then pair it again:

Resetting your iPhone and Watch can help make sure the update gets past where it got stuck.

Note that this means you will have to start the update from the beginning again.
