Windows 10 lets you see your hard drive storage usage in Settings.

Step 1: Open the Settings app in Windows 10 using Win + I. and select System.

Step 2: Select the Storage option on the left side and you can see the total storage usage of your local hard drive.

Any drive or partition can be clicked to view additional details.

Click on the drive you want to view its storage usage details for.

For example, you can type this PC (C:), which is your system drive.

Step 3: The process will accurately count the files that are taking up space on your disk and how much space each type of file is using, as you can see in the picture below.

Step 4: You can click any file type to see the complete files in it, and manage or delete the unwanted files directly.

If you are using an older version of Windows, such as Windows 7/8, other tools such as WinDirStat will be needed to check what is using up your disk space.

Step 1: Download and install the WinDirStat program on your Windows 10. After installation, run this tool as an administrator.

Step 2: Select all local drives or some individual drives you want to use the full space you want to check and click OK.

It will start scanning your drive.


Step 3: After the scan is complete, you can get an overview of your disk space usage. In the upper left of the interface, you can see the directory organized by size under each drive.

On the top right, you can see exactly which files are taking up the most space on your disk.
