If you have installed Microsoft Office on your computer or cannot find your product key, try using other software such as Product Key Finder to decrypt and remove the product key from the Windows registry.
Step 1: Download a Product Key Finder and install it on your computer.
Note: The trial version can only see the first five characters of the 25 product key, while the full version can see the full character of the product key.
Step 2: Launch the Product Key Finder, and click “Start Recovery” button. Find your Microsoft Office product key
The program will scan your computer and find product keys for supported programs, including Microsoft Office and other programs.
Step 3: Click the “Save to File” button to save all product keys to a text file. So, when you want to install and run the software on another computer, you don’t have to worry about the update issue.
Method 2: Find the product key of MS Office installed on your system through CMD
Unfortunately for us, only the last five characters of the 25-character Office 2019, Office 2016, or Office 2013 are saved on your computer.
In this case, you can still check the Microsoft Office license installed on your system.
This is how:
Step 1: Open the Advanced Command Prompt. (Win + X, A)
Step 2: Run the ospp.vbs script and note the last five characters of the installed product key.
The ospp.vbs script is located under the Microsoft Office programs folder.
Folders are different depending on the version of Microsoft Office and whether you are using 32-bit or 64-bit Windows/Office.
Example script: Office 2016/2019 (64-bit) and 64-bit version of Windows.
C:\cscript “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office16\ospp.vbs” /dstatus
The most common places are:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office16
The last 5 characters of the installed product key
