How to Disable Windows 10 Shortcut Keys – 2 ways

This article is about how to Disable Windows 10 shortcut keys. Microsoft has added many new keyboard shortcuts in Windows 10.

Sometimes you can disable some of them if they are bothering you.

The most commonly used keyboard shortcuts can be some combinations of the Win key and other keys, such as Win + R, Win + E, Win + X, etc.

Method 1: Disable Win + hot key for windows 10 from the group policy menu


Step 1: Type gpedit in search and click Edit Command Prompt. This will open the area group policy editor.

Step 2: Go to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Applications > File Management.

On the right side, find disable Windows + X keyboard shortcut and double click on it.

Step 3: Check Granted and click OK.

Click enabled and OK

Step 4: Restart the computer to start the setup. Then, Win+ hotkeys will be disabled in your Windows 10.

Method 2: Disable the Win + Keyboard shortcut in Windows 10 with the registry editor


Step 1: Press Win + R to open the Run box. Type regedit and click OK. This will open the Registry Editor.

Step 2: Go to the key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer.

On the right side, right-click the space and click New > DWORD (32-bit) to create a new key.

Create a new Value

Step 3: Name the new key NoWinKeys and double-click it. Set its value to 1, and click OK.

Set data value and click ok

Step 4: Close the Registry Editor and restart Windows 10 for the settings to work.

Then the function Win + hotkeys will be disabled.

Once you disable the hotkeys in any of the above ways, the Win + X key combinations will not be available in your Windows 10 until you enable them, which means that Windows cannot open the Run dialog when you press Win + R, cannot be opened.

Open File Explorer after pressing Win+E, and more. If you want the Win + X keys to be saved, enable them.
