how to clean a mousepad

You probably already know that your computer keyboard is dirtier than a toilet. The next time you’re cleaning that important workspace, don’t forget to clean its pesky neighbor, the mouse pad.

Mouse pads don’t show much dirt, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any types of germs crawling around on the surface. Whether used for work or play, mouse pads take a lot of abuse, so they need a little TLC.

Fortunately, cleaning pads is not a tedious task.

These methods can be used for cloth or plastic cases that do not include any kind of technology

  • First, wash the mouse repellent in a sink or bowl filled with water and mild soap.
  • A good mild shampoo or even a squirt of hand soap will do the trick.
  • Using a soft brush, sponge, or washcloth, gently clean the mouse pad.
  • Rinse the mouse pad with cold water until all the soap is gone.
  • Finally, dry the mouse pad with a clean towel.
  • Allow to air dry completely before using again. It takes at least 24 hours.

Some mouse pads are machine washable! If this is your case, follow these steps:

  • Place the mouse repellant in the washing machine and add a small amount of detergent.
  • Using only cold water, run the machine on the gentle cycle.
  • Remove from the washing machine, and air dry for at least 24 hours.

Plastic mouse pads can be easily cleaned without water

Try this Real Simple procedure:

  • Using a cleaner, spray a small amount on the rubber mouse pad.
  • Wipe off the bleach with a clean cloth.
  • If any area is visibly dirty, use a little elbow grease.
  • Finish with cleaning out the harmful things.
Allow to dry before using the pad again.

There is no hard and fast rule for how often you should clean a mouse pad, but at least once every three months, and after any illness, is a good start.
