While Siri isn’t as good or versatile as Alexa or Google Assistant, having a voice assistant built into your iPhone and iPad is great. Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon for Siri to pause you in the middle of a command, as you pause to collect your thoughts.

If this happens to you frequently, it may be time to give Siri a break.

If Siri often stops short of your commands or questions, you can increase Siri’s pause time to give you more time to speak.

You can choose between three pause times of 3 to 5 seconds.

You can find Siri Pause Duration in your iPhone’s Settings app; Tap Accessibility, followed by Siri.

By changing Siri’s pause time, you can make the voice assistant wait a little longer to let you finish speaking before it interrupts you or tries to execute your command.

In iOS 16, you can use the Settings app to choose from three holiday settings. It may not come as a surprise to know that the nearest stop is Apple’s default setting.

Open the Settings app,

4. In the Siri Timeout field, select the Pause time you want –

Default,
Longest, or

Longest.

The default delay time is about three seconds from when you stop speaking until Siri starts responding to your commands.

Each Long and Long option adds one second, for a maximum delay of about five seconds.

You can always listen for “Hey Siri,” for example, if you want Siri to be available even if your phone is on the floor or in your pocket.

You can also select Speak on Speaker notifications to force Siri to speak all notifications out loud and use Hang Up to end a phone call by asking Siri to end the call.
