1. Mark the edges

Running twine or a garden socks along the desired edge, fixing it around the tree. For a vertical fence, place a stake at each end and stretch the twine between the stakes to mark the ends.

2. Insert the blade of a spade or edger six inches into the soil.

Insert the blade at a 45 degree angle to create a slope that runs along the garden bed. Work along the string or pipe until you create a continuous stop along the entire border. Edge trimming helps prevent weeds from spreading from the edges and into the bed.

3. Cut the second line and the first cut
